ABOVE DRAWING OF TYPICAL CATHODIC PROTECTION SYSTEM
Cathodic Protection Engineering Experts with Engineering Services, L.P. have extensive experience in evaluating cathodic protection system in a variety of industries and applications.
Cathodic Protection is used to reduce or eliminate corrosion by connecting a more active metal to the metal that must be protected. For example, zinc and magnesium anodes are used to protect steel in marine environments.
Cathodic Protection is also obtained with the use of an impressed current (D. C.) and using a relatively inert anode. An electrolyte, of course, is required for proper electron flow.
This method has found wide use in underwater pipelines, marine structures, equipment and tanks. Nevertheless, this method does not work with many chemicals or where an electrolyte is not present.
