Engineering Services, L.P. has lent its specialty failure analysis services to Drilling and Downhole applications.

Applying failure analysis principles to shale drilling equipment revealed the unexpected presence of explosive isobutene in the drilling mud tanks, resulting in an explosive atmosphere flash point far lower than the typical methane detectors were calibrated to.  This discovery mandated new procedures & explosion proof electric equipment installations in previous lower hazard classified locations.

Engineering Services, L.P. was again challenged with analyzing downhole perforating gun premature firing initiation sequences.  Again, employing failure analysis principles set forth by Engineering Services, L.P. was able to diagnose the problem, determining the Root Cause failure was not an equipment malfunction in nature but was instead an operator procedural driven error as the failure determination.
